The Chesapeake & Ohio had a series of 4-8-4s, the last built in 1948, which powered its crack passenger trains and during dieselization, were transferred to freight duties. One, No. 614, was preserved and it ran extensively after being re-built in the late 1970s. In the autumn of 1980, No. 614 stormed along the Ohio River in northern Kentucky, with a long excursion train in tow.
